2 Months Young

Amelia’s second month had some highs and lows.  She is still the sweetest little baby ever so mostly highs but we stared to have food issues.  Around 5 weeks she broke out in a sandpaper rash all over her face, scalp, and tops of her chest and back.  She was having a lot of gas and explosive, mucousy stools and was very congested.  Then she started throwing up (not spitting up) most of her meals which lead to her just refusing to eat.  It was so sad.  We made the decision at 7 weeks to switch her to formula for a week and clear my breast milk of dairy (the number one culprit of food issues in little ones).  Her rash mostly cleared up on the formula and all the other issues disappeared.  We put her back on breast milk three days ago and so far, so good.  The first day she threw up a couple of times and had a lot of gas but she seems to be back adjusted to it now.  Her rash is still not completely cleared up but it hasn’t gotten any worse.  I have read it can take 2-3 weeks for your milk to completely clear so cross your fingers for us that this works.  I already don’t eat gluten, now no diary.  It could be anything but common other culprits would be eggs, soy, or nuts.  Or if she has a protein intolerance like Claire did breast feeding will just never work.  I am cautiously optimistic at this point though.  She isn’t eating as well as I would like but I am really hoping we can keep her on breast milk.  In fact, I am having a lot of trouble getting her to eat at the breast at all.  I am mainly having to pump and give her a bottle.  🙁

Amelia smiled for the first time at 7 weeks.  Of course, we think it is the most precious little grin!!

She had her 8 week check up and got her first round of vaccinations.  So sad for momma and baby to go through that.  She actually got pretty sick from them and was vomiting all night.  You could feel her stomach heaving.  She had a fever was was very pale.  I just hated seeing her little body going through that.  She is growing like a weed though:

Height: 22 3/4 in – 78 percentile
Weight: 10 lbs 9 0z – 44 percentile
Head Circumference: 14.5 in – 20 percentile

Barring any sickness, we don’t go back until four months.  She will have to get another round of shots then and I hope she doesn’t get so sick.  I am convinced there is nothing worse than watching your child suffer.

She is starting to transition to her 3-6 month clothes.  Newborn pants are too small and tops are snug but still wearable.  This was the opposite of Claire who always grew out of tops first and bottoms later!

Amelia is still sleeping in our room.  She has had a lot of congestion and the doctor recommended having her sleep upright in her car seat.  So she sleeps right in between us in her seat.  I know Drew is anxious to get her moved into her own room but I am just not ready!  I really like having her right by me.  This was completely opposite as with Claire.  We had her in her room and crib by the time she was two weeks.  I don’t know if it is because I know this is my last baby and I want to cherish every second or that I have changed and am much more motherly then I was 2.5 years ago.  Maybe a combination of them both.  Amelia is an excellent sleeper.  She only wakes up once during the night sometime between 2:30-4 and then sleeps through till 6-7:30 in the morning.  Don’t get me wrong, we are still exhausted around here but it is much better than Claire’s every two hours on the dot.  Right now we feed her last sometime between 11pm-12am.  Her feedings typically take an hour because she insists on lots of breaks!

Claire is slowly coming around to her little sister.  We have much less kicking, hitting, and derogatory comments.  Instead she says sweet and funny things daily.  My favorite is when she says “Claire love Milna, baby sistah” and gives her a kiss on the forehead.  She has also said “Milna real cute.”  She likes to talk about how baby came out of mommies tummy and mommies tummy is “no big” anymore.  She still loves to help give Amelia baths and likes to feed and change her baby doll when I am working with Amelia.  Really Claire likes to be involved in anything I am doing.  A constant shadow!

A little update:

In the three days it has taken me to get this post done we had to take Amelia to the doctor.  She just really was not eating at all.  It had been 9 days since her 8 week check up and she had only gained 2 oz (they like babies to be gaining 1-2 oz per day).  So, we go back next week to check her weight.  We are really hoping she is gaining again!

Sorry to hear that you’re having to go through these hard times again. I hope it all works itself out and she’s able to eat what she needs. Hang in there momma! They both look so precious in all the pics. Can’t wait to visit!!
