Santa Fe

Over President’s Day weekend we loaded up the car with us, Claire, the two dogs, and all our stuff and drove down to Santa Fe to spend the weekend with Drew’s parents.  It was a whirlwind weekend but we had a wonderful time!

What is a road trip without food stops?

We drove to Taos on Saturday and stayed the night there.  We were starving by dinner and just went across the street to “5 Star Burgers,” we were so glad we did.  It had newspaper articles from USA today and others ranking them the best burger in New Mexico, we agreed!  Their burgers and fries, and well, everything was DELIC!!

Our hotel had an indoor pool so we thought it would be fun to take Claire swimming when we got back but the water was freezing and the swimming experience lasted all of 5 minutes.

Sunday morning we drove the last 1.5 hours into Santa Fe and met up with Grammy and Pap.  Our first stop was brunch at Tecolote.  I really enjoyed my food.  It was SPICY.  When I was pregnant with Claire I could not handle spicy at all but this time around all I want is spicy!!  Santa Fe was the place to go to satisfy that itch!  We couldn’t check into our hotel for a few hours so we went and walked around the plaza area.

Me and my most precious!!

We got checked into our hotel (The El Dorado – super nice!!) and got Claire down for a nap.  We were able to get adjoining rooms so that was really convenient!   We went to dinner at Vianesse, which was a piano bar.  We got to sit right next to the piano and Claire was so interested!!  She was clapping and bopping up and down to the music.  I think she stole the show!

We had one tuckered out girl so it was back to the hotel for bed.  Daddy, Grammy, and Pap all participated in story time!

Next morning we ate breakfast at Pasqual’s.  Claire had a COMPLETE melt down here.  She is usually pretty good at restaurants but I think she was so off her schedule that it was inevitable.  We had to eat our meal in shifts and take Claire outside to walk around.  Then even that wasn’t cutting it and she just kept saying “nap, nap, nap.”  So, Drew walked her back to the hotel and she took her nap at 10 in the morning!

After nap, we drove down to Canyon Road to walk around the art galleries.  There was some BEAUTIFUL pieces, unfortunately, they were all out of my price range by tens of thousands of dollars!

All the excitement wore Claire out again and I had to find a seat so she could take a quick nap!

When we got back to the hotel we walked next door and grabbed a few slices of pizza for a snack.  The hotel had a rooftop pool and hottub that we ventured up to when we returned.  I only got to stick my legs in so I didn’t hard boil the baby but it was nice enough outside that that was just fine!

After getting cleaned up we had dinner reservations at The Shed.  After dinner we walked around the town a little more and then came back to the lobby of our place and took a few pictures.

Our last morning had arrived and we loaded up the car and then headed to breakfast on the Plaza.  We were all getting tired of New Mexican so we went to the Plaza Diner instead.

All of the activities and the food were fabulous!  Maureen and Dan drove back to Denver so they could spend a little time in Ft. Collins.  On the way back we stopped in Taos again for a little car reprieve and a quick lunch at the Bent Street Cafe.  This was the first hotel trip we had ever taken the dogs with us on and they did great.  Now that we know they are good travelers I see more road trips in our future!  Maureen flew back to Texas the following day but Dan stayed for a few extra days.

We took him to Biker Jims – an experience everyone has to have while visiting Denver!
